Boys & Girls Club of Lynn is proud to announce its 2010 Youth of the Year

Nehemie Alcindor
Nehemie Alcindor is a true example of an extraordinary young man. At age 17,He has been selected as the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn's 2010 Youth of the Year, earning him the honor to compete against other Boys & Girls Club members throughout the state for the Massachusetts Youth of the Year title and a $1,000 scholarship from the Reader’s Digest Foundation. As the Youth of the Year for Boys & Girls Club of Lynn, Nehemie is among hundreds of local youth across the country recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for his sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. The title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome. This program was founded over 62 years ago through the generosity of Reader’s Digest.
Nehemie has been a member of the Lynn Club for eight years, spending most of his time on helping the staff with athletic programs in the gym, such as assisting with the twelve and under basketball team.Alcindor has demonstrated his willingness to go above the norm for high school students when giving back to the community. He volunteers numerous hours tutoring and coaching children at the Club. Additionally, he has been involved in the Club’s leadership group entitled “Keystone Club” by involving himself in serving at My Brothers Table and helping with park clean ups.

At its' Annual Meeting, the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn recognized long time board member Ray Miller for his many years of exemplary service to the Club and leadership of its Annual Campaign.
Miller joined the board in 1997 and has been very active in Resource and Board Development. He was a key player in the Club developing an annual campaign, reaching out to many of his business associates to ensure the success of our campaigns. Miller is a partner in Miller & Favazzo Properties in Salem, MA and resides in Swampscott with his wife Cris.
Miller & Favazzo Properties is recognized for developing commercial real estate that is superior in design, quality, and function. Founded in 1980 as Raymond Miller Associates by Raymond (Ray) W. Miller, the company focused on residential and commercial development projects in Washington, D.C., Connecticut, and Massachusetts. In 1990 Charles (Chuck) N. Favazzo joined as partner and the company assumed its current name, Miller & Favazzo Properties. Together they have developed over 6,000,000 square feet of space, including major downtown high-rise office buildings, suburban office buildings, and retail shopping centers throughout the United States.
Miller, was recognized with the National Service to Youth Award for "unusually devoted service to boys & girls for his outstanding support of the Boys & Girls Club of Lynn. Miller joins a list of distinguished board members past and present to be so recognized. Past President Shawn Potter, CEO of Lynn VNA was the 2003 recipient. Other past recipients have included J. Robert Dugas, Robert Conlon, Robert Kennedy, Kendra Nagy, Richard Sims, John Carey, Alfred Chase, Albert Creighton, Fred Mower, Charles Newhall and Guy Newhall.
